The Canadian Income Tax Act is a never-ending work in progress. Each
year The Canadian Income Tax Act adds, subtracts, alters, adjusts, tweaks
and massages new, draft and existing legislation. Each year tax
incentives are available in order to encourage Canadian Taxpayers to direct
money into specific areas of the economy. Some years there are more incentives,
many years there seem to be less.
Over the years there have been flow throughs, labour-sponsored funds, film tax
shelters, MURBS, scientific tax credits, computer software tax shelters and
donation programs - to name but a few.
Some of these programs reduce your after-tax cost of an investment, some assist
you to defer taxes payable to a future date while others actually reduce your
tax.
